About

What is Field Atlas

Field Atlas is a curated guide to Australia's natural places. We cover swimming holes, waterfalls, lookouts, gorges, coastal walks, hot springs, caves, and national parks โ€” the places that make this continent extraordinary.

Every entry is researched, verified, and written by our editorial team. We visit the places, check access conditions, and describe what you'll actually find when you get there. We don't accept sponsored placements, and we don't publish user reviews.

The goal is simple: help you find natural places worth your time, and give you the practical information you need to visit them safely.

Our editorial approach

Quality over quantity

We don't aim to list every waterfall or swimming hole in Australia. We include the places we'd actually recommend โ€” the ones that are worth the drive, the walk, or the early start.

Accuracy matters

Access conditions change. Roads close, trails wash out, entry fees go up. We verify our information and update it regularly. If we're not sure about something, we say so.

Honest descriptions

We describe what you'll actually find โ€” not what the tourism board wants you to think. If a lookout is often clouded in, if a swimming hole is seasonal, if the walk is harder than it looks, we'll tell you.

No hype

We don't call things world-class, breathtaking, or bucket-list-worthy. We describe the place and let you decide.

Part of the Atlas Network

Field Atlas is part of a family of curated Australian guides. Each atlas focuses on a different subject โ€” craft beverages, natural places, heritage sites โ€” but shares the same editorial values: accuracy, honesty, and a quiet respect for the places themselves.

What Field Atlas is not

Field Atlas is not a trail conditions service. We provide general information about natural places, but conditions in the field change constantly. Always check with local authorities, parks services, and weather forecasts before visiting.

Field Atlas is not a review platform. We don't publish user ratings or crowd-sourced reviews. Our descriptions are written by our editorial team based on research and direct experience.
